To honour the life and contributions of Steve Appleton, the late CEO of Micron Technology who died on 3 February 2012 when his single-engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff, Micron Foundation establishes a named scholarship at National University of Singapore's University Town (UTown) with a gift.
The Micron Foundation seeks to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics education through support to educators, students and communities worldwide. Micron Technology, Inc. is one of the world’s leading providers of advanced semiconductor solutions and systems.
Application Criteria & Procedures
Applicants must:
- be full-time NUS Engineering undergraduates in their third and fourth year of studies in electrical, computer, mechanical or chemical engineering with a specialisation in semiconductor manufacturing, design or related activities
- be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- be residing at College of Alice & Peter Tan, Cinnamon College (USP) or Tembusu College
- have strong leadership qualities and potential
- have outstanding extra-curricular activities records, and
- have GCE ‘A' levels, Diploma from a Polytechnic in Singapore or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate)

This scholarship is bond-free.
Value of Rewards & Benefits
The scholarship is valued at S$10,000 annually.
General Terms and Conditions
- The scholarship is awarded on the basis of competition among eligible candidates. Recipients will be selected from among the best in each cohort. All candidates interviewed may be considered for all UTown scholarships, where eligible.
- Interviews are expected to be conducted in June and July.
- Interest and ability to contribute to residential college life and to the programme, leadership qualities and potential, co-curricular records and other capabilities will be assessed.
- The recipient must fulfil the University’s prevailing guidelines for scholarship award.
- The scholarship is tenable annually.
- Renewal of the scholarship requires the recommendation of the College Master and the approval by the Office of the Senior Deputy President and Provost.
